Apples are ripe for the picking here in Maine, and we managed to get in a trip to the orchard amidst a soccer-filled weekend. This made for a tasty pie later on!

Gosh, what a fabulous pleasure. No idea when Tesla or Aila will get a chance for such. T has started asking for a yard. When she's 16, she might dig SF, but to be able to pick apples would be lovely. We do have access to nature, but still, it can't compare to what you have!

You all should come out for a visit. Plenty of apples for everyone.
But for now, a little closer to home, you can just go up to Petaluma (weekend picking Sep/Oct):

Another great thing to do with the girls this time of year: pumpkin picking. Drive down Rt 1 near San Gregorio/Half Moon Bay - plenty of pumpkin patches to choose from. Combine it with a stop at Moss Beach for tidepooling and you have a lovely outing for the day. Here's a pumpkin map! http://www.explorer1.com/halfmoonbay/pumpkin-map.htm
We really live in similar areas - a great city surrounded by ocean, mountains, and great state/national parks all within a few hours drive :)
Kids love picking stuff!
