NASA's Mars Curiousity Rover has sent many stunning and historic photographs back to us earthlings, which have been widely reprinted and reported on by the media. While they have garnered much praise, could they go so far as to secure the first-ever Pulitzer Prize won by a robot?
As it happens, I put this question to the Pulitzer folks in 2008. The answer - it's entirely possible we'll see the first Pulitzer win by a Robot-American this year:
" If the photos were published in a newspaper and ultimately chosen, we would
have to figure out how to allocate or explicate credit," explained Sig Gissler, Pulitzer Prize administrator.
So who should get the credit? The engineers who built the robot? The camera subsystem programmers? The mission specialists? Or should the Curiousity Rover itself walk roll off with all the glory?
